Our
Story
Fifteen years devoted to a single craft —
thermal, blackout and noise reducing curtains, done properly.
Since 2010
One craft.
Three curtains.
THE ATELIERS was founded in Paris in 2010 by a small team of textile designers with an unfashionable conviction: that doing one thing exceptionally well matters more than doing everything.
While others built sprawling catalogues, we devoted fifteen years to a single craft — the insulating curtain — and the three things it must do well: block the light, hold the warmth, soften the noise. Today, THE ATELIERS is trusted by discerning homeowners across the UK who want their bedrooms darker, their homes warmer, and their rooms quieter.
Our path
Fifteen years,
one obsession
2010
Paris — The Beginning
Our founders open a small atelier in the 6th arrondissement. The early collections cover everything — but one truth keeps emerging: clients don't just want beauty. They want better sleep, warmer rooms, quieter homes.
2015
Britain — A New Chapter
THE ATELIERS arrives in Britain — a country of light summer mornings, cold winters, draughty period homes and busy streets. The decision becomes obvious: focus everything on curtains that perform, designed for British light and British weather.
2019
The Specialist Era
We retire every decorative line and commit to three families — thermal, blackout, and noise reducing — refined year after year, alongside the poles, rings and tie-backs needed for a perfect hang. Fewer products. Deeper expertise.
2025
Harrogate — Our Home
We open our boutique in the heart of Harrogate — a town that shares our values: considered taste, quiet elegance, and a deep appreciation for things made to last. Visits by private appointment only.
Why ours are different
The anatomy of
a THE ATELIERS curtain
The Blackout Range
A dense triple-weave construction that blocks the vast majority of incoming light — enough to transform a bright summer morning into a restful, sleep-ready room. Honest note: no curtain achieves total darkness; ours come remarkably close.
The Thermal Range
A multi-layer insulating lining that helps keep warmth in and draughts out — a noticeable difference in comfort, especially in older British homes. It won't replace your heating, but it will help it work less hard.
The Noise Reducing Range
Our densest, heaviest weave — cut to soften echo and take the edge off outside noise. Not soundproofing, and we will never claim it is — but bedrooms on busy streets feel noticeably calmer behind it.
The Drape
Weight is what separates a beautiful curtain from a flat one. Across all three ranges, ours hang heavy and fall straight, from ceiling to floor — with a texture that looks considered, not technical.
The Finish
Reinforced edges, precision-stitched hems, and headers that hold their pleat year after year. The details you don't notice at first — and never stop appreciating after.
Poles & Accessories
Brushed brass, satin nickel, and matte black poles, plus rings and tie-backs — everything needed for a perfect hang, designed to match the curtains they carry.

What drives us
Our
Commitments
Every decision we make — from fabric sourcing to packaging — is guided by the same values we've held since our first atelier in Paris.
One Craft, Mastered
We don't chase trends or extend into products we don't understand. Insulating curtains — thermal, blackout, noise reducing — are what we know, what we test, and what we improve, season after season, for fifteen years.
Honest Claims Only
We will never tell you a curtain achieves total darkness, halves your heating bill or soundproofs a room — because none does. What we promise is real: noticeably darker, warmer, calmer rooms, and a quality you can feel the moment you open the box.
Honest Advice
Our team will tell you when a size, colour or range won't suit your room — even if it means you spend less. We would rather you trust us for thirty years than impress you for thirty seconds.
Built to Last
Longer-lasting textiles are inherently more sustainable. Dense weaves, reinforced stitching, colourfast fabrics — a curtain you replace in ten years, not two.
The materials
Chosen for longevity
The finest interiors aren't built on what looks good in photographs — they're built on what still looks extraordinary in twenty years. Every material in a THE ATELIERS curtain is selected with that horizon in mind.
- Triple-weave blackout fabric — dense, soft-touch, blocks the vast majority of light
- Multi-layer thermal lining — helps retain warmth and reduce draughts
- Heavyweight acoustic-grade weaves — soften echo and outside noise
- Colourfast dyes — tested to BS EN ISO 105 standard, no fading
- Reinforced hems & headers — pleats that hold their shape for years
- Brass & nickel poles — solid, not hollow — weight you can feel
"Anyone can sell a hundred different curtains. We chose to master three — because the rooms you live in deserve more than catalogue items."
